TACTIX Summer School 2025

Workshop Dates: July 16-18, 2025
Location: Fraunhofer MEVIS, Bremen/Germany

Application Deadline: April 14, 2025

We are pleased to invite you to apply for the TACTIX Summer School 2025 – the first in a series of three summer schools focused on the clinical and technical foundations of MRI, with particular emphasis on MR sequence programming, hands-on training, and an in-depth introduction to the gammaSTAR platform.

This workshop series is organized under the EU-funded Twinning Action project, TACTIX, in which Boğaziçi University coordinates a consortium with partners from Amsterdam University Medical Center (AUMC) in the Netherlands and Fraunhofer MEVIS in Germany. The summer school is a 2.5-day in-person event hosted at Fraunhofer MEVIS in Bremen, Germany, designed to bring together around 30 early-career researchers for an intensive and collaborative learning experience. Selected participants from Turkiye will receive travel stipends.

About TACTIX

The TACTIX project, "Twinning Approach for Computational MRI Technology and Innovation Excellence in Türkiye," is a prestigious initiative aimed at enhancing the scientific excellence and innovation capacity of Boğaziçi University in the field of computational magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Under the coordination of Boğaziçi University and in collaboration with renowned European institutions— Amsterdam University Medical Center and Fraunhofer MEVIS—the project seeks to advance computational MRI research through shared expertise and collaborative innovation.

About TACTIX Summer School 2025

Subject and level:

  • Topics Covered: The TACTIX Summer School will cover a range of topics designed to provide participants with both foundational knowledge and practical skills in MRI technology. The program includes an introduction to the basics of MRI and general principles of data acquisition, with a focus on MR sequence programming. A key feature of the training will be an in-depth introduction to gammaSTAR, an innovative software platform developed by Fraunhofer MEVIS that simplifies the process of MR sequence development and makes advanced MRI training more accessible to students, clinicians, and researchers alike.
  • Language Proficiency: All courses and materials will be conducted in English. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through an official language exam (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS) or, in exceptional cases, via a brief personal interview conducted by members of the Evaluation Committee.
  • Difficulty Level: Intermediate-Advanced. The workshop is intended for participants with academic background and a foundational level of clinical and technical knowledge in MRI, and basic understanding of MS.

Eligibility and requirements:

  • Target Audience: The workshop targets Early Career Researchers affiliated with research institutions in Türkiye, Fraunhofer MEVIS, AUMC, and other organizing institutions. Eligible participants include PhD students/candidates, Post-Doctoral researchers, Master’s students, and junior researchers.
  • Language Proficiency: All courses and materials will be conducted in English. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through an official language exam (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS) or a short personal interview conducted by some members of the Evaluation Committee.
  • Clinical Knowledge: Applicants should have a background in clinical research or practice, particularly in neurology, radiology, or related fields.
  • Technical Knowledge: Participants should possess prior coursework or practical experience in biomedical engineering, medical imaging, statistics, clinical research, or computational sciences. A basic understanding of MRI technology and computational methods is required, and familiarity with digital tools and software for automatic image analysis is advantageous.
  • Onsite Equipment: Participants are required to bring their own laptops. Specific software requirements will be provided in advance, with no paid software necessary.
